Doug was on the French club's European tour between our Jr and Sr year. Several of our group were in 'la piazza' (main square) in Venice when a riot broke out between Communist protesters and police. Doug was mistakenly thought to be a protester, was grabbed, and taken to jail. Our chaperones had to quickly find the authorities and convince them that they had an American high school student incarcerated. While it was scary at the time, it made for a fabulous story afterwards.

Yes, Kathy.  That was very scary!  We were so scared and worried about him.  Thankfully, Mr. Worley and Mrs. Bowman got him out!  It did make for a fun story.  Doug was a fun guy and lived life to the fullest!

Doug and I use to tease eachother and I could not believe how he passed. I think of him  and all of my Redskin friends that have passed.

Although I didn’t know Doug personally in school, we became very good friends in the following years. We went hunting together on multiple occasions and had some very good times. After his hang gliding accident I realized how close we really were. He and I and Pam and my girlfriend during that time have many fond memories...

Even after all these years I still miss him like I’ve lost a family member

Doug was a quality individual and the world is NOT a better place without him

I helped Doug go door to door to sell items to help him pay for the European trip.  I remember when he returned from the trip, he shared the scary story of being captured and put in jail.  Doug was a great friend and neighbor.
